Why you need a cord cutting

Spirit is in everything, everywhere and everyone. Energy surrounds us, always! As part of our everyday, just like air, water, earth and fire, spirit is the fifth element.  As a consequence, energetic connections are part of our existence, linking us to everyone and everything that we have ever come into contact with. Also known as cords, they can connect us to people, places, things, experiences, ideas, traumas and our relationships. Since energy is everywhere and in everything, when I say everyone, I do mean everyone; from the mailman that you occasionally see, to your parents, friends and partners. Say hello to the cord connecting to your 7^th grade crush, you might find a pair of braces in there if you look closely. 😊

“But that was such a long time ago, I have lived several lifetimes since then!” I hear this all the time. And as much as that might be true, and that 7^th grade crush might be the last person on your life list that you might think about, the cords are still there. Because energy cannot die or go away, it can only be transmuted or changed. Newsflash, energetic cords outlast your relationships. So, if you’ve had a falling out or the person is no longer in your life for whatever reason, the energy doesn’t just disappear along with them.

Have you ever had an unhealthy relationship that had wrapped up years ago, and you do not keep in contact with them, but you keep thinking about the person? Even to the extent that you might get upset with yourself for the repetitive nature of the thoughts, that don’t seem to go away. Even as you type the persons name into the social media search bar, you can feel the disappointment in yourself, yet there you are, doing it… again.

If you haven’t had that experience, chances are you’ve seen someone close to you go through that. It’s a pull that seems stronger than logic, logistics and common sense put together. But this happens to almost everyone at some point and that’s because it’s the energy of your shared cords calling you back!

What do I mean by cords? Picture the shape of an infinity symbol or a horizontal number eight. On one end is you and on the other end, a particular individual in your life. Depending on the relationship type, you might have multiple cords attached to different parts of the body. And that horizontal figure 8 is relevant, because that’s the give and take nature of relationship energy. If flows from you to them and from them to you, always looping back and forth.

If you start doing the math, consider that this exists for every single person that you have ever met. When you consider your age, life experiences and interactions, it can almost feel overwhelming. Keep in mind, we are spiritual beings having a physical experience, with every thought, feeling and action existing in energy form.

Those cords exist and the health of them can vary. Perhaps it’s a strained relationship or one where communication is an issue. The cords will reflect that. Especially if the relationships didn’t end well, it can be very draining on us energetically as they continually send energy back and forth.

The more life you live, the more experiences you collect, the more that things come up. So you can imagine these millions of cords plus the larger cords of meaningful relationships that did not end well. This can be very draining. This is where a cord cutting can help.

As a ritual, a cord cutting is designed to sever those connections. For the interactions that were just in passing, this is great and for the significant ones it can mean the difference of leaving hurts, arguments and issues in the pass and being able to better move forward; getting energetic closure especially if you weren’t able to get any in real life.

There are several different ways that a cord cutting can be done. Some people do it through a guided meditation or visualization, others through candle magic. I have 2 ways that I do mine depending on the client and what is presenting. First one is through hypnosis and is known as a cord healing. The second involves a knife/dagger used for spiritual purposes, also known as an athame. It can be done both in person and at a distance.

• Couples going through difficulties and attempting to reconcile and move forward.
• Getting through/over a divorce.
• Communication difficulties in a relationship.
• Those struggling to leave people, places or things in the past.
• Addictions
• Heartbreak
• Grieving
• Big fight

When spirit was a given, our communities understood this. There were rituals, healings, prayers, shrines and holy sites that could help us deal with the ongoing effects of energy in our life. It was woven into the fabric of everyday society. As much as this might seem an extreme viewpoint of energetic connections, we can actually find remnants of this in certain religious practices. Prayers for some of the most mundane activities, such as going to the washroom or simply entering a room in your home (look it up, its fascinating).

I know early in my spiritual journey and still moments today I struggle with the idea that there is no one and done when it comes to addressing energetic effects in my life. The idea of “Just give me the perfect healing/reading/clearing and my energetic clock is reset and I can start fresh.” From my experience both on my personal journey and the clients I have had the opportunity to work with, it just doesn’t work that way.

Like an onion, when you peel one layer back there is another layer just below. That’s why its so important to remember that spirit lives within us and in everything we do, because its at the core of who we are. Do we ever stop needing air, water, fire or earth? no…and the same goes for spirit.

So if you have been struggling to leave something in the past or attempting to move forward in your life with little luck, try to remember all the energetic ties that might be keeping you stuck in the same spot and consider how a cord cutting might help you.
