2. Five Types of Spiritual Interference: Recognizing and Resolving the Unseen

There are forces at work in this world that many ignore, dismiss, or fear to acknowledge. Spiritual interference comes in many forms—some subtle, some forceful, but all capable of shifting the course of a life. These forces do not come merely to torment or distract; they come with purpose. Whether as a warning, a lesson, or a challenge, they demand our attention and our action.

Here are five common forms of spiritual interference that show up time and again. Each must be handled differently, with the wisdom to discern their origins and the strength to remove their grip.

***PLEASE NOTE: These are just a few examples of common forms of spiritual interference I often see in my practice. This is a small snapshot of a deeply complex topic that has long been the subject of study throughout human history. The full spectrum of this material could fill many, many books and years of study to grasp.

1. Spirit Attachments: When the Unseen Lingers

Not all spirits move on as they should. Some stay tethered to the living, feeding off energy, influencing thoughts, or even altering behavior. Spirit attachments are not always malicious—sometimes they are simply lost souls clinging to familiar energy. But make no mistake, even well-meaning spirits drain and distort. They whisper doubts, disrupt sleep, and cloud decision-making.

No spirit, regardless of your relationship with them (parent, child, or loved one) should be allowed to linger unchecked. When an attachment is present and the signs are clear there are some common signs: an unexplained shift in mood, exhaustion that no rest can cure, sudden irrational fears, or a sense of being watched. And the remedy always starts with a divination, to receive the unique recipe called for the particular spirit affliction. Cure-all’s in the spirit world rarely, if ever work.

2. Ancestral Commitments: Burdens Passed Through Blood

Our ancestors were not perfect. Some made promises, bargains, or commitments that did not end with their lifetime. These agreements—spoken or unspoken—can weigh on their descendants. You may feel an inexplicable pull toward a path not your own or face obstacles that seem larger than your choices. These ancestral ties can be as simple as unfinished business or as complex as soul contracts binding generations to an obligation.

To break free, one must first acknowledge the commitment. Ritual and ceremony are needed—candles lit for those who came before, words spoken to release the burden, offerings left as payment for debts not yours to carry are just the begining. It is not about disrespecting those who came before but about claiming the right to live your own fate without the burden of work you never agreed to. A healthy relationship when honoring your ancestors is at the core of this work.

3. Generational Trauma: The Wounds That Echo

Some wounds are not ours, yet they shape us. Trauma does not disappear when a person dies; it imprints itself onto the lineage. Fear, scarcity, cycles of abuse—these pass down like heirlooms, shaping how we love, how we trust, how we see the world. Generational trauma is one of the most insidious forms of spiritual interference because it does not announce itself as a ghost or an external force. It whispers in the way a mother teaches her daughter to fear, in the way a father hardens his son’s heart before the world can break it.

Breaking the cycle requires deep work. This work doesn’t just simply name the wound—it requires digging up. Healing ceremonies, shadow work, and an honest confrontation with pain are necessary. This is work done in layers, across time. It requires courage, but the reward is freedom—not just for you, but for those who come after you.

4. A Rift in Your Own Spirit: When You Are Your Own Obstacle

Not all interference comes from outside forces. Sometimes, the struggle is within. Doubt, self-betrayal, broken faith—these create fractures in the spirit that leave us vulnerable. A rift in the soul feels like being lost even in familiar places, like making choices that go against your own best interest. You may find yourself repeating mistakes, sabotaging blessings, or feeling as though part of you is missing.

Healing this kind of interference requires an honest reckoning with yourself. It is the work of gathering back lost pieces, whether through self-forgiveness, ritual, or the deep stillness required to hear your own voice again. This is the path of mending yourselfback to wholeness, and it is not an easy one.

5. Evil Eye, Ill Will, and Curses: When Others Weaponize Energy

Not all harm is accidental. Some interference comes from the direct ill will of others—whether intentional curses, bindings, or the envious gaze of someone who wishes you misfortune. The evil eye is real, and so is the weight of curses cast in anger, jealousy, or revenge.

How to recognize the signs: a sudden streak of bad luck, objects breaking without reason, a heavy presence in your home, unexplained illness, or an energy that clings to you like wet cloth. Uncrossing rituals, candle work, and spiritual baths are needed to remove what has been placed upon you. The biggest difficulty with this type of spiritual interference is the modern belief that it is not real;ultimately stopping individuals from receiving the help to move past it.

Reclaiming Power and Moving Forward

Spiritual interference is not something to fear—it is something to recognize and resolve. Every person will, at some point, face these forces in one form or another. And might fear they are loosing touch with reality in the process. The difference between being a victim and standing in your power is acknowledging you have a problem and getting appropriate help to move forward.
